Virtual 360 View of Our Office in Lawrence

July 8, 2019 by doctordave

Have you ever seen those virtual 360 tours online?  We’ve got one now of our office in Lawrence!

It’s live on Google Maps.  If you’d like to see a full view of our office explaining all the cool stuff in it, check out this link.  Inside you’ll see lots of Doctor Who stuff along with other interests Dave has.  If you’d like a detailed view of the office, not hosted on Google, this link explains all the stuff in the office.

At 4105 West 6th Street is a small office we use to meet with our clients. It’s small for a few reasons. Since we do most of our work onsite, we don’t need a big space.  We pass those savings along to our clients.  We also don’t have any retail sales.  We focused solely on computer repair.  We don’t sell computers; we don’t repair mobile phones.  We do one thing and do it really well:  computer repair.

You can also see in that office we don’t have storage space for computers waiting to be repaired.  That’s by design.  Sure, we might need to monitor a system overnight or do an extensive data transfer from an old computer to a new one.  For the most part, though, we work on your computer right then and there.  You walk in with a computer needing to be repaired, and you walk out with it fixed — no sitting on a “rack” for days or weeks at a time.  We don’t have the room!  It forces us to be efficient and not waste your time.

All service, unless specified otherwise, is by appointment only. We just don’t have the room to see more than one person at a time or store their computer after all.

Locked Out of Your Google Account?

May 20, 2018 by doctordave

GoogleThat question should strike fear into your heart.  I know it does mine.  That’s why I freaked when I read this article about one tech writer unable to access his account.

The worst part of his story? He had no idea how he got locked out or how he got back in.  It all started with a forgotten password.  Once he tried to reset it, he was locked out for over a week.

Of course, a password manager would have helped him.  We recommend 1Password. If your Google account is critical, there are some safety measure that can be added so you can get back in once you’re locked out.

We do this all the time for clients, so if you rely on Google and Gmail, give us a call, send us a text, or write us an email.  Most appointments are less than an hour. The safety and security is worth its weight in gold according to our clients.

Don’t Forget You Can Get iPhone or Android App Refunds

September 17, 2017 by doctordave

Sometimes you purchase something by mistake or just don’t like it.  You’re not stuck!  Getting refunds is pretty easy, but there’s a time limit.  You can’t decide months later you don’t like an app

.Money

For Android apps, you can get an automatic refund if you ask for it within 2 hours. After that, you’ll need to fill out a particular form if it’s been more than 2 hours, but less than 48.  After that you’ll need to contact the developer for a refund.  Companies are pretty good about refunds.  They’d prefer a refund over a bad review.  Google’s full refund policies are listed here.

For Apple apps, including iPhone and iPad, you can’t get an automatic refund like on Google Play with Android apps.  You’ll need to “report a problem” with the app.  This guide explains it well, but basically you click the link on the receipt or from within the app store.  You tell Apple you don’t like it or it doesn’t work and they get back to you.  Apple’s window for refunds is longer than Google’s.  You have up to 90 days to request that refund.  Apple’s full refund polices are listed here.

Don’t be afraid to ask for your money back if something didn’t work right or you didn’t like it. You’d return a product to a physical store that you didn’t like or didn’t work for you.

One caveat:  if you do this, don’t expect to keep the app.  It may stay on your device but won’t get updates.  You also won’t be able to reinstall it when you have a problem.
